Graduate Trainee Programme

Sharing from former Graduate Trainee

Karen Hui, Graduate Trainee (2011 intake)

Why did you join our Graduate Trainee Programme?

The structure of the Programme allowed me to experience and learn from different aspects of the Commission, as well as giving me a “big picture” view of how the SFC organises itself and conducts its regulatory duties. By rotating through various divisions/departments, I have been able to find what interests me and what I am well suited for to be able to contribute to the fullest of my potential, to the Commission.

How has the SFC helped you on your career development?

The Commission has been very supportive in my career development. I have gained valuable frontline regulatory experience by getting directly involved in the daily operations of the Licensing Department. Another such example are the opportunities that have presented themselves to me while I was in the CEO’s office which were both challenging and rewarding. This would not have happened without the support of the SFC and the Graduate Trainee Programme. My comprehensive experience gained from various divisions/departments forms a solid foundation for my future career advancement at the SFC.

How would you describe the culture at the SFC?

My colleagues at the SFC are professional and open minded. My supervisors have been generous in sharing their own professional experience and giving me advice. They value my feedback and recognize my contributions and ideas when presented to them. The attributes that I see in those working around me and with me, really shows that the Commission invests heavily in its people and that they are driven by a greater sense of public service, rather than monetary reward.
