Chief Executive Officer

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) of Hong Kong is seeking a leader with global vision to assume the role of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  The SFC is the independent statutory authority overseeing the securities and futures markets in Hong Kong, one of the world's leading international financial centres.  Its regulatory objectives include to maintain and promote the fairness, efficiency, competitiveness, transparency and orderliness of the securities and futures markets in Hong Kong.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to a Board chaired by a non-executive Chairman, the CEO has the overall executive responsibility for leading the SFC with an established headcount of over 1,000.  This includes regulating one of the largest stock exchanges in the world, regulating the largest wealth management industry in Asia ex-Japan, fostering close cooperation with local, Mainland and international regulators, and enhancing Hong Kong as an effective market of capital formation for local, Mainland and international companies.  The candidate shall also represent the SFC to work closely with local, Mainland and international partners such as other regulatory bodies in Hong Kong, the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), and the International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO).

Requirements

The candidate should:

  • have a vision for and be dedicated to the future of Hong Kong as a major international financial centre, both in terms of market development and regulatory standards;
  • have a demonstrated track record and impeccable integrity in the financial services sector, together with a sound understanding of the operation of local, Mainland and international financial markets and their regulatory issues; and
  • possess at least 15 years of solid managerial experience in a regulatory authority, an exchange, a financial intermediary, an accounting or law firm and/or a public organisation.
