一些公司看来以香港投资者为对象，但却并未获发牌在香港进行受规管活动。它们通常采用的名称会与合法金融机构相若，令投资者混淆。在另一些情况下，该等无牌公司可能会在互联网上提供投资交易平台。如果你与并未获证监会发牌的公司进行交易，你或不会受到证监会执行的法规所保障。

可疑网站

可疑网站可能会提供一些吸引得令人难以置信的投资机会，例如以极大的折让价出售一些虚构公司未进行首次公开发售的股票，或保证有多倍回报的基金，但实际上这些投资并不存在。在另一些情况下，那些网站或许是一些冒充信誉良好的金融机构的网站的伪冒网站，以诱骗投资者付出金钱及/或披露个人资料，使骗徒有机会欺骗投资者。

除非你确定有关公司已领有适当牌照及其合法性，否则切勿回应这些在网上所提供的投资机会。
可疑虚拟资产交易平台

如有关营运者不领有牌照，切勿理会这些虚拟资产交易平台所提供的投资机会。如要查证任何虚拟资产交易平台是否已获证监会发牌，请参阅本会的持牌虚拟资产交易平台名单。

某些虚拟资产交易平台看似在香港营运，或以香港投资者作为对象，但他们并未获发牌以在香港提供虚拟资产服务或进行受规管活动。这些平台或以吸引得令人咋舌的投资机会引诱投资者，讹称已经或即将在本地及/或海外获得牌照，甚至透过社交媒体、即时通讯软件、所谓关键意见领袖（即网红或KOL）或其他广告媒体大肆推广。

伪冒电邮

伪冒电邮往往会模仿合法金融机构发出电邮，诱使收件人披露他们的信用卡/银行户口号码及密码/个人身分识别密码（PIN）。如果你披露了有关资料，你的户口可能被骗徒提取金钱。

大部份合法的银行不会透过电邮向客户索取资料或PIN。如有任何疑问，应直接联络有关银行。
伪冒监管机构及∕或市场营运机构

设立伪冒规管机构及∕或市场营运机构的网站是常见的行骗手法之一，目的是要欺骗不虞有诈的投资者，令他们误以为网站登载名单所显示的金融机构或中介人，是由真实存在的监管机构所规管的，但事实上，这些金融机构从未取得任何真正监管当局的认可。骗徒或会声称透过一些获认可的市场营运机构(例如股票交易所)进行买卖，以欺骗投资者。这些伪冒网站声称代表的金融监管机构或市场营运机构往往纯属虚构，但骗徒所采用的名称却容易令人相信有关机构的确存在。这些网站设计精美，且通常载有最新的财经新闻，企图营造网站是真实可靠的假象，但事实上，以有关名称运作的金融监管机构或市场营运机构根本不存在。

投资者如要查证个别金融监管机构及市场营运机构是否确实存在，可分别浏览国际证券事务监察委员会组织 及 国际证券交易所联会的网站(只有英文版)，查阅所登载的成员名单。
